Whale Island Vietnam - Hammock on Palm Island

Hammock on Palm Island

Palm Island Vietnam (aka Whale Island)

Whale Island Vietnam is a beach escape at its most exotic. Spectacular white beaches, azure seas, unspoilt corals reefs, quaint wooden bungalows... it's pretty much as close to paradise as you can get. Just imagine a hammock slung between two palm trees, swaying in a gentle sea breeze while you sip a cheeky afternoon cocktail. You can also swim, snorkel and dive giving you the option to do as little or as much as you like. In the evenings, wander along the beach with the powdery sand between your toes, and eat fresh fish at the lovely restaurant.

Whale Island Vietnam is best visited  from February to October, when rainfall is at its lowest.

Day 1: Arrival - Whale Island Vietnam

Depending on your mode of arrival, you'll be collected from either the railway station or the airport in Nha Trang. The minibus will bring you to the jetty for the speedboat crossing to Whale Island Vietnam. This region to the east of Van Ninh in Central Vietnam is protected as a nature reserve both above and below the water. On the island, and in the surrounding bay, you'll see incredible animal and bird life. The underwater world is superb – if you snorkel you'll see both hard and soft corals, and many unusual species of fish. Between April and July whales and whale sharks are often spotted in the vicinity of the island.

Whilst staying on the island, your meals are included. Upon arrival, a meal will be served and you can follow this with a drink in the tropical bar with the gentle sound of lapping waves in the background. Bliss.

Day 2: Go as you please

There are only a small amount of bungalows on the island, all hidden amongst swaying palm trees. These bungalows are comfortable and secluded, letting you relax completely while you listen to the nearby waves. The bungalow walls are made of bamboo, brick and palm wood, and their roofs are thatched with local palm leaves. Inside they are tastefully furnished with a double bed (or two singles) and a mosquito net. All of the bungalows have their own private bathroom and a fan to keep you cool. Children under 8 years old can be accommodated with their parents in the same bungalow for free. You'll wake up to the sound of birds chirping, the wind blowing through the palm trees and sometimes a fishing boat or two heading out to pick up their catch.

You can rent snorkels for less than $3 per day. Whale Island Vietnam is an unbelievably good diving location in Vietnam, and you are more than welcome to book a diving course to keep you occupied during your stay.

Day 3: Departure from Whale Island Vietnam

In addition to diving and snorkelling, there are various other activities up for grabs during your stay on Whale Island Vietnam. Surfboards and catamarans are available for hire. You can also book boat trips to the neighbouring bays and islands, or take a bird spotting walk on the island. The owners of this tiny eco-resort are heavily involved with nature and its preservation. They'll be more than happy to tell you where the mangroves, swamps and animals can be found in Van Phong Bay.

If you'd like to extend your stay, just let us know and we'll arrange this for you. At the end of your stay, you'll be brought back to Nha Trang by boat and then minibus. You'll be dropped off at your hotel or taken straight to the airport or railway station.

WARNING: You must not fly within 24 hours of your last dive. Please keep this in mind.
